Kenilworth Residents Win Free Parking at Castle

After a long campaign led by Liberal Democrat town councillor Pat Ryan and subsequently backed by other town councillors, English Heritage has now agreed that parking in the Brays car park at Kenilworth Castle will remain free for Kenilworth residents when charging begins from 1st April 2009.

Lib Dems breathe new life into Wellesbourne Leisure Centre project

Wellesbourne's plans for a new Leisure Centre, controversially cancelled by Conservatives on Stratford District Council, were given a kiss of life this week when Liberal Democrat councillors forced a fresh debate on the issue. Now local Lib Dems are challenging the Conservatives to think again and restore the project, which has major support from Wellesbourne residents.

Funding Needed for Citizens Advice Bureau in Kenilworth

At this week's meeting of the Kenilworth Town Council, Liberal Democrat councillors Ann Blacklock and Pat Ryan proposed that the town council should provide some financial support to the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) to enable its vital work to continue in Kenilworth.

Lib Dems Force A Proper Debate On Warwick District Bus Scheme

Sharp-eyed Liberal Democrat county councillors spotted recently that the Conservative Cabinet were trying to slip through a major decision on the future of the Warwick District 'SPARK' bus scheme without discussion. As a result, the subject was given an initial airing at an Environment Overview & Scrutiny meeting this week, and both Liberal and Labour committee members outvoted the Conservatives to send the matter back to the Cabinet with the recommendation that it should be debated fully by the Warwick Area Committee before Cabinet makes any final decisions.

New 'Van Ban' Policy Is Still Unfair and Discriminatory

Liberal Democrat county councillor John Whitehouse (Kenilworth Abbey) has criticised as "still unfair and discriminatory" a proposed new policy at Warwickshire County Council's (WCC's) household waste recycling centres. The new policy will permit a minor relaxation of the current rules to allow drivers of twin cab 4x4 pick-up vehicles to use the centres in future, but only if it is a household's only vehicle.

A step closer to Kenilworth's dedicated walking and cycling network

A scheme to make it easy for the people of Kenilworth to choose walking and cycling for everyday journeys came a step closer today as sustainable transport charity Sustrans and its Connect2 partners at Warwickshire Council signed the paperwork that will guide the development of the scheme for the coming months.

The Incinerator Debate: Key Decisions Day for Warwickshire County Council

Warwickshire County Council decides today whether it will proceed with a joint application for government Public Finance Initiative (PFI) credits with Coventry City Council and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, based on a project to build a new 305,000 tonnes Energy from Waste (EfW) plant on a site adjacent to the existing Coventry incinerator.
