After a long campaign led by Liberal Democrat town councillor Pat Ryan and subsequently backed by other town councillors, English Heritage has now agreed that parking in the Brays car park at Kenilworth Castle will remain free for Kenilworth residents when charging begins from 1st April 2009.

The new charges will apply between 10.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. in summer, and between 10.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. in winter, which will allow all walkers and ramblers to use the car park for free before and after the main influx of castle visitors.

However, the new concession means in addition that anyone with a Kenilworth Resident's Pass paying to use the car park during the charging period will be able to obtain a refund from the castle's ticket office.

Cllr. Ryan said:

"I am absolutely delighted by this news, which is better than I dared hope for when I started this campaign. I applaud English Heritage for being prepared to listen to local residents views, and to respond so positively."
