Kineton School has been the first venue to host a panel debate between parliamentary candidates for the new constituency of Kenilworth and Southam. Liberal Democrat Nigel Rock and Conservative Jeremy Wright faced more than hundred sixth formers on Friday 5th March who put challenging questions to the two candidates. This session followed a morning of debate between the sixth formers and councillors about their roles and views.

Stop Project Transform Now - Liberal Democrats call for halt to giant incinerator plan

Liberal Democrats in Warwickshire are calling for an immediate halt to Project Transform, the joint project with Coventry and Solihull to build a replacement for the Coventry incinerator by 2016. They have tabled a motion to this effect for debate at the next full meeting of Warwickshire County Council on 30th March.

Kenilworth Railway Station moves a step nearer to reality

A key stage in developing a new railway station for the town of Kenilworth will be decided tomorrow by Warwickshire County Council. The Cabinet is being asked to give the go-ahead to the purchase of land currently owned by Buildbase, off Priory Road and Lockhart Close in Kenilworth. This land is crucial to the development of the new station, which when completed is forecast to handle more than 700 trips a day.

The new walking and cycling route for Kenilworth took a step forwards today when the proposed new bridge over the A429, Coventry Road, was granted planning consent by Warwickshire County Council's Regulatory Committee.

Nigel Rock, the Liberal Democrats' Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the new constituency of Kenilworth and Southam, has generated his first solar electricity from the new 2.6kW solar photo-voltaic panels on the roof of his Napton home. And even in the pale sunshine of winter the panels are generating significant amounts of electricity, which Nigel can either consume at home or sell to the National Grid.

The current recycling targets being used by the "Project Transform" partnership of Warwickshire, Coventry & Solihull councils are far too low, say the Liberal Democrats. This could result in a giant incinerator being built that is the wrong technology and too big for possible future needs.

Tories Might Undermine Local Postman Role

Liberal Democrats have learned that Stratford District Council is prepared to undermine the role of the local 'postie' in South Warwickshire. In response to a question from Councillor Nigel Rock (Lib Dem - Stockton and Napton), Councillor Sue Wixey, the Conservative Cabinet Member, said that decisions on how the Council deals with its mail 'will be based wholly on the business case', and made it clear that no consideration would be given to the wider role that Royal Mail postal deliveries play in villages and towns across the rural area.

The County Council today backed unanimously a motion from the Liberal Democrats reaffirming its commitment to the national 10:10 climate change campaign. The council had stated in September that it was signing up to 10:10, but since then there had been no further announcements.

Local people deserve better - Warwickshire Liberal Democrats respond to Fire Service announcement

The axe will continue to hang over Kenilworth, Warwick and Fenny Compton Fire Stations for several more months, as Warwickshire County Council announced (Council meeting, 15th December) that the Council's vote on proposals for the future of the county's Fire and Rescue Service will be delayed 'indefinitely'. But the county's Liberal Democrats insist that local people deserve better than an open ended plan to bring proposals back 'some time in the future'.

Wind Farm Monitoring Mast Application Refused

A packed public gallery of over 100 people watched as Stratford District Council planning committee refused an application for a wind monitoring mast by a margin of one vote on Wednesday (25 November). The purpose of the mast, which was to be sited at Knightcote nears Bishops Itchington was to provide wind speed and direction information for a potential wind farm at the site although there was considerable debate about the degree of connection with renewable energy in technical planning terms.
